How to make dog food
Simple homemade food for dogs
If your dog is unwell you can give them some homemade, easy-to-digest food to help. I can consist of boiled white fish or chicken and white rice or potatoes. Cottage cheese or eggs can also be used as a protein source. At veterinary clinics and pharmacies there are also special feeds and supplements that can have a positive effect on diarrhoea. Either in the form of a paste or powder that, among other things, contains probiotics.
Important! If your dog's general condition is impaired or worsens, you should always contact your veterinarian.
When should I give my dog homemade food?
If your dog has a bad stomach but has a good general condition, you can try a soft diet.
This is how you make your own dog food
- 4 parts boiled white rice or boiled potatoes.
- 1 part boiled chicken or boiled white fish.
- Cottage cheese or eggs can also be used as a protein source. Then take 1 part cooked white rice and mix with 1 part cottage cheese.
- Mix and give the dog small portions.
- When you see an improvement in your dog, the amount can be slowly increased.
How much dog food should I give my dog?
Start by giving approximately 25% of the dog's likely daily needs divided into 3-4 portions. The amount can be increased as you see an improvement in the dog. When the dog feels well and has stable normal stools, the regular feed can be gradually mixed in.

How long can a dog have this diet?
If the diarrhoea continues even though the dog has been eating dry food for a few days, it is time to contact the vet. Be careful to only give the dog soft food and water.
When do I need to see a vet?
If your dogs condition worsens; they become lethargic, tired or have a fever. If you suspect that the dog has swallowed a foreign object or if there is a lot of blood in the stool.
