Plastics in pet care

At Agria we continually strive to help you provide the best care for your beloved pets. Keeping your pets fit and healthy, alongside our planet, are two things we are hugely passionate about. We've been reflecting on plastics and how our choices can affect our pets and the world we share with them. Let’s take a closer look…

Rethinking Plastic Toys and Accessories

We love to treat our precious pets, but many of the toys available are are often synonymous with colourful plastics - these come with dual concerns. Environmentally, they are usually quite short lived and can contribute to our ever-growing plastic waste. For our pets, these toys can break into ingestible sizes, posing a choking risk, or may contain harmful chemicals. Looking out for eco-friendly, long-lasting alternatives ensures our pets still enjoy playtime, while reducing our environmental impact.

Food and Water Bowls: Beyond Plastic

Plastic bowls, a common choice for many of us, often wear out quickly, and may develop scratches which can harbour bacteria. From an environmental viewpoint, these worn-out bowls often end up in landfills. Ceramic or stainless-steel options can be more hygienic for pets and are longer-lasting, reducing waste.

Plastic and Poo

Plastic poo bags and non-biodegradable cat litters contribute massively to plastic pollution. By opting for compostable bags (and disposing of them correctly!) and eco-friendly litters, we can minimise our pets' plastic pawprint, while contributing to a cleaner environment for them.

Packaging Matters

Beyond the contents of our pets' food, the packaging plays a key role in our plastic dilemma. By supporting brands that use minimal or biodegradable packaging, we are supporting the shift away from plastic. Some pet food stores even offer refill services, so that you can dispense only what you need for your pet into a reusable carrier.

As we navigate the world of pet care and plastics together, we know that the choices we make today, influence our world of tomorrow. With our commitment to sustainability and our passion for animal welfare, we are working towards a brighter, healthier future for both our pets and our planet.
